My interest in the natural sciences arose from experiences with instructors that encouraged me to view the world through the lens of biology.  Their influence led me to pursue a career in teaching that would enable me to instill a sense of the elegance and beauty of the natural world in my students.  During my time at the University of Pittsburgh’s School of Education, I taught biology and environmental science to high school students.  My lesson plans placed students at the center of learning to keep them engaged and challenged.  Now I have the opportunity to continue my inquiry-based approach to teaching with undergraduate students here at Pitt.

In addition to my teaching, I manage the prep lab and oversee the prep staff for Foundations of Biology Laboratory I and II (BIOSC 0050 and 0060).  My goal is to provide all supplies and equipment needed to foster an effective learning environment for students.  This goal cannot be accomplished without help from my prep team made up predominately of undergraduate students; therefore, I am frequently searching for undergraduate lab assistants to join my team.  This position offers many benefits to a student hoping to learn basic laboratory techniques.  If this is a position that interests you, feel free to send me your resume/C.V.

Jessica earned her Bachelor of Science at the University of Pittsburgh in 2010 and then earned her Master of Arts in Teaching at the University of Pittsburgh in 2011. She joined the department in 2011.
